Climate change is demanding the highest form of collective action in human history. The global scale, breadth and cross-sectionality of the climate crisis demands an unprecedented levels of collective human response. The interconnection of heritage, culture and climate action serves as a fundamental strategic approach aimed at creating collective actions.
Culturally Relevant Climate Action (CRCA) is embedded in the creation of a deep sense of belongingness and shared ‘common place’ within the global climate justice movement. By leaning into heritage and Inidgenous knowledge from the Caribbean and Africa our objective is to cultivate a ‘common place’ that supports youth and local communities in gaining a better understanding of a sense of self by the introduction to heritage from the past, to affirm belongingness in a shared global future.
Da Grouper School Party is a culturally relevant approach to peace building and climate action that intertwines dance, art, science, technology, and engineering in a dynamic intergenerational global learning experience to co-create solutions.
One of the objectives of Da Grouper School Party ( also known as Skate 4 Peace in Ethiopia) is to build capacity for the long-term engagement and participation in citizen science (voluntary) and community science (paid) projects that have been strategically designed to reduce data gaps that exist within Least Developed Countries, and Small Island Developing States for example, gaps in our understanding of rainfall patterns due to poor hydrometric data networks which inversely impacts our understanding of climate change and reduces our collective ability to build resilience. This party is part of pre-cop 28 capacity building for young people from Africa and the Caribbean. Learn more about our time at COP 27 in Sharm- El- Sheikh Egypt.
